I know an EQ is great when I simply put it on a track, don’t make any adjustments, and the track instantly sounds better. That’s what the Q American Series equalizers do for me! Very smooth, transparent highs, clear defined mids, punchy and warm low end without mud. Knobs and faders have nice ballistics and the EQ’s “behave” like their much sought-after hardware equivalents. And they look like 500 series “lunchbox” units too – a nice psychological benefit. Great product!
I have been mixing several projects with Q American Series and I’m pretty much loving them. One of the projects I’m working on had a very unpleasantly and poorly recorded, bass heavy sounding, male vocal. I chose some other EQs to remove that low end. I wasn’t quite happy with either of my choices, then I reached for QA, just to check how QA will handle it. And I was pleased to hear how it nailed the task! Just one knob rotation and boom, that nasty low-end crap is gone. Great Sound!

QG Features
The QG plug-in is a ten-band fixed frequency graphic equalizer divided into one octave increments. The center frequencies of each band are set at 31Hz, 63Hz, 125Hz, 250Hz, 500Hz, 1kHz, 2kHz, 4kHz, 8kHz and 16kHz. The amount of boost or attenuation is continuously variable from -12 dB to 12 dB on all bands.

I had a chance to test out The “Q American Series” by Volko Audio. They state that this series digitally recreates the legendary API 550a, 550b and 560 vintage American console equalizer counterparts. It seems they accomplished that task with a touch of their own character. All three of these Equalizers share the API aggressive, high mid-forward sound. However with Volko Audio’s rendition, they achieved partly a bigger sound and notably, more aggressive harmonic over-tones, in a pleasing way. I think this EQ series can be utilized for drum and bass guitar shaping especially. Each EQ, while retaining the API sound, also offers its own unique sonic foot print.
QA – overall tighter, tad warmer sound
QB – more open top end than “A,” and more sheen
QG – some where between those 2 with it’s own mid range focus

First of all i used orginal API EQs and i have and 550B clone.I compared with what i hear.It’s really aggressive as API EQs.Even only 2dB boost or cut gives you character of real hardware.Tried with kick, snare, overhead, bass guitar and e.guitar.You can get soft or hard effect from these EQs.And i tested with gaussian noise to see curves.It has real proportional Q as hardware.With only 2 or 4 dB you can get punch of centre freq and neighbor freqs.Adding really nice color.With higher gain values, you can get high Q but it’s really sounding musical.Normally high Q values sounding ugly but with these EQs, you will get smooth results.These EQs have what orginal hardwares have.

I like API coloured gear, and these are really great! QB is most suited to me, workflow-wise, but they all sound as good. The analog modeling helps most tracks sit better in the mix, and adds interesting colour.
